Warriors Stun Knighthawks in OT

ROCHESTER NY – Mitch Jones scored the game tying goal with 4.2 seconds to play and then sealed the deal with the game winning goal, shorthanded in overtime to lead the Vancouver Warriors to a thrilling 11-10 overtime win over the Rochester Knighthawks at the Blue Cross Arena in upstate New York.

Jones, the NLL’s leading scorer, finished with four goals and five assists for 9 points on the night.  Joel McCready had a big night, as the former Knighthawk blistered his former team with four goals and one assist for five points.  Keegan Bal also scored twice for the Warriors while Riley Loewen added a single to round out the scoring for Vancouver.

Eric Penney and the Warriors defense locked down the game in the second half.  Trailing 8-4 after 30 minutes, the Warriors allowed just two shots and no goals in the third quarter and two goals over the final 35 minutes of the game.

Jones’ OT winner was the only lead of the game for Vancouver all night.

With the victory, the Vancouver Warriors finish the first half of their season with a 4-5 record, good for third place in the West Division and the eighth and final playoff spot in the NLL.  Vancouver will return to action with another trip to the East, this time a date in Toronto with the always tough Toronto Rock on Saturday, February 15th.  Game time from the Scotiabank Arena will be at 4 PM PST.
