Warriors Name Matt Beers Captain

For Immediate Release: December 13, 2018

VANCOUVER BC – The Vancouver Warriors are proud to name Matt Beers as the first captain of our franchise.

Beers, 29, is an eight-year veteran of the National Lacrosse League and has spent his entire career with this organization, which now calls Rogers Arena home.  He also was a part of the NLL Championship team that played in Washington in 2010, his rookie campaign.

“It is a special honour and privilege to be named the first captain of the Vancouver Warriors,” says Beers.  “We look forward to proving that we are a team to be reckoned with this season and proving the doubters wrong.  I am excited to be asked to help lead this team and my teammates and I are ready to show Vancouver what Warriors lacrosse is all about.”

General Manager Dan Richardson, “From the moment that Canucks Sports and Entertainment took the helm of this franchise, our core principles of Respect, Integrity, Character, Hard Work and Community were established as pillars to any success we have here with the Warriors.  From Day One of meeting Matt Beers, I knew that he was our captain.  He leads both on and off the floor and for us this choice was a natural one.”

Vancouver has also named forward Logan Schuss and defenceman Ian Hawksbee as alternate captains.  Schuss, 27, begins his 5th season in Vancouver.  The pride of Delta BC, Schuss scored 26 goals and added 36 assists last season.  Hawksbee, 35, is the senior member of this Warriors team and enters his 15th season in the NLL.  Hawksbee will help anchor the defence this year as ‘Lacrosse is back Downtown.’

The Vancouver Warriors are set to kick off their inaugural season at Rogers Arena.  For tickets, please visit www.vancouverwarriors.com for more information or call 604-899-4625 (option 3).
