SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Rush jumped out to a big lead but then had to hang on in the end to edge the Vancouver Warriors 12-9 in National Lacrosse League action from Northern Saskatchewan on Saturday night.
The Rush jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead, scoring 5 goals in each of the first two quarters to stake themselves to a massive lead. But Vancouver clawed back, allowing just two goals in the final half while scoring seven of their own to make things interesting in the final 30 minutes.
Keegan Bal paced the attack for Vancouver, scoring three times while adding two assists for five points on the evening. The Warriors also had two goals from Mitch Jones, and singles from Jordan McBride, Tony Malcom, Logan Schuss and Jean-Luc Chetner.
Eric Penney was the starting goaltender in this one but was lifted at 7:09 of the second quarter after allowing eight goals on 28 shots. Former Rush goalie Aaron Bold was greeted with both cheers and jeers from the Saskatoon crowd of 13890, and was stellar, allowing just three goals on 25 shots and allowing his team to get back in the game.
The Vancouver Warriors will now head into a bye week with their next home game on Sunday April 14th as they face the Philadelphia Wings. For tickets, please visit www.vancouverwarriors.com/tickets for more information or call 604-899-7799.
